Jerry Mathers Joins ICE

Jerry Mathers, best known as "the Beaver" and an American icon for nearly 50 years, joined ICE for our Jerry Mathers on ICE! event in Oklahoma City earlier this month. It looks like he may be joining ICE on a regular basis.

"Today's television doesn't provide children with the character values or role models they need for their moral development," Jerry shared with those attending. "The television programming decisions today are often made by those in their 20's or 30's, and kids roles often involve quick gags and witty comebacks.  We need programs where children can see how other children resolve problems, develop empathy for others, and work toward doing the right things.  Leave It To Beaver did this, and has now been translated into over 90 languages and still runs today in over 100 countries around the world. There is a huge appetite for positive role models for children, but Hollywood just doesn't seem to get it."

One of the goals of the Institute for Character Enrichment - to develop an entertaining children's and family-friendly television program that promotes moral development and values - is consistent with several projects that Jerry has been working to develop through the Hollywood establishment.  Jerry's visit gave ICE a chance to explore those interests further, and we found a lot of common ground. 

ICE has a unique concept that may overcome some of those barriers, and Jerry shared his interest in working with ICE to help make it happen.  Stay tuned!
